Oskar Blues BrewingTasty Weasel
It's a great sunny fall Sunday to be out and about. We're at the Oskar Blues taproom, The Tasty Weasel for a few beers. Today they have a sour cherry Old Chub, it's a sweet/tart of cherry flavor. Old Chub is such a great beer to have adjuncts, it lends well to many flavors.

Vanillin Out of Mind at Avery Brewing
The vanillin out of mind is the Out of Bounds, is a roasty blend of Ozo's coffee with whole vanilla. A rich, big stout that's 6.3% ABV.

Odd 13 last stop
Last stop for today, Odd 13. They have a Sour Blonde Ale that is wonderful in it's tartness. Blonde Ale barrel-aged on brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus.
Last day of GABF at Avery Brewing
Last day of specials during GABF, Avery has some great beers, Brazo Rollizo, the Trogdor aged in tequila barrels at 7% ABV . It has that smoky nose with the smoky sweetness of the doppelbock with a smokey back end. The tequila barrel balances the Brazo Rollizo.
Perennial Ales at Backcountry Pizza and Tap House in Boulder
We're in boil water mode in our subdivision because tainted drinking water that should be taken care of soon that we decided that to eat/drink out so headed to Boulder for lunch at Backcountry Pizza. Right now having a beer I've never had, Perennial Ales Abraxas, a Imperial Stout. Brewed with Anchos chiles, cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, and cinnamon sticks. It has a chili nose and then the front end has a Mexican chocolate flavor with a slight chili heat in the end. What wonderful rich flavors but it's 10% ABV can be disceptive.

Elysian Brewing Dark O The Moon at the Falling Rock
This Elysian pumpkin ale is wonderful with a cinnamon nose that hints of richness. Dark O the Moon has smooth chocolate cinnamon front end that lingers to the backend and at 6.5% is a nice first beer.

Upslope Brewing 3.5 yr old Barley-wine release
Upslope Brewing's GABF week tapping at the Flatiron Park taproom. The barley-wine was sweet and the oxidation wasn't a problem ( not cardboard tasting at all). The nitro milk stout was really good too.
Odd 13 Raspberry Belgian Quad
GABF week at Odd 13 with a raspberry Belgian Quad, it's a sweet tart with that back end flavor of raspberries. It's 8.29% ABV and it sold out really fast today.

Sour Ale Tap Takeover at Backcountry Pizza and Tap House
There are so many any people that are into sour ale. Today at Backcountry Pizza and Tap House in Boulder there is a sour ale tap takeover with 32 ales from all over the country and from overseas. Crooked Stave baby foeder peaches and New Belgium shadow of a foeder cask with a cheeseburger and fries with just enough grease to cut through the sour stomach. This is the first annual sour ale tap takeover at Backcountry Pizza. John Fayman, owner of the tap house is confident that this well be either annual or biannual. He said that maybe six months from now the next one would be lambics, it's very exciting if John can pull this off. But the sour ale tap takeover will be the Sunday before GABF week and for those of us who can never get tickets for the Avery Sour Ale fest this is great news!

2013 GABF week-Colorado Beer Tour, Part 2 - Longmont/Niwot
Now that the GABFest is here let's take our Colorado Beer Tour to Longmont and Niwot. This is part 2 of the GABF week series. Longmont is the home to two breweries, Oskar Blues and Left Hand. These breweries have given Longmont the name as one of the beer destinations during GABF week.
Oskar Blues Brewing has been in Longmont since 2008 canning over 100,000 barrels of beer. The Tasty Weasel is located in the brewery where fermenters, the canning line is in full view from the taproom. They can beer Monday-Friday so if your curious to see how fast their canning line is, I recommend going then. The weekends are quieter except for the music being pumped into the room via a sound system. All the taproom servers are friendly and knowledgeable about Oskar Blues beer. There are over 10 taps including the hand pull for cask conditioned ale. The bar sets plenty and there is many table plus patio seating. For GABF, the Tasty Weasel will be having events all week long. Call the taproom for more details.

Homemade Liquids and Solids is another Oskar Blues venue with over 40 taps pouring only domestic craft beer and they don't have bottled beer. Check out there website to see what beers are on tap at the restaurant. I talked to Lou McKercher, who is the manager there and he was stoked about what was going to be tapped during GABF week. Each day there will be a tap takeover from a brewery.

They have grown since then with many expansions of their taproom. They will be having rare beer tappings all week long starting Monday Oct. 7.

There another brewery that is located south of Longmont in the town of Niwot, Bootstrap Brewing. Steve Kaczeus is the owner along with his wife, Leslie and he is also the brewer. Bootstrap is a friendly place to have a beer. They will be tapping a double dry hopped the Insane Rush IPA with Citra hops and will have a Merlot aged Brown on tap as well. If you find yourself wandering around in Niwot please stop on by for a pint at Bootstrap, the Kaczeus' will welcome you.

Next brewery for our GABF week tour is Left Hand Brewery which is just 5 or so minutes away from Oskar Blues. Left Hand Brewing is the oldest brewery in Longmont and most of us started our beer education there when the taproom was the size of a closet. They have grown since then with many expansions of their taproom. They will be having rare beer tappings all week long starting Monday Oct. 7.

Wyder's Barrel-aged Pear Cider
Barrel-aging has become such a wonderful process for beers. Many breweries have barrel-aged beers on tap and in bottles. So full circle to ciders, Wyder's barrel-aged pear cider. It's only 4%ABV, but has a crisp aroma and that Chardonnay flavor with the sweetness of a pear cider. It has is more complex to the palate.
